๐ฏ๏ธ Last Quarter Moon in Capricorn Candle Ritual
April 9, 2026 | Moon Shine Spills Ritual Blog
A ritual for releasing what has expired, honoring the work you have done, and making intentional space for what is truly yours.
The Last Quarter Moon is a moon of honest work.
Not the dramatic, candlelit work of intentions whispered into the dark. Not the luminous, heart-cracking work of the Full Moon's revelation. This is quieter than that. Steadier. This is the work of someone who has seen clearly โ who knows what needs to go โ and is choosing, with open eyes and a settled heart, to actually let it.
This month, that work happens in Capricorn.
Capricorn understands release in a way that other signs sometimes struggle with. It does not romanticize what is being let go. It does not need the letting go to feel beautiful in order to do it. Ruled by Saturn โ the planet of time, of structure, of what is honestly, truly earned โ Capricorn simply looks at what is no longer serving the foundation it is building and places it down. Not dramatically. Not with apology. With the quiet dignity of someone who has done the math and knows what the answer is.
This ritual honors that.
It asks you to bring your most grounded, most honest self to the altar. To release not because something failed, but because you have grown. To clear not because you are starting over, but because you are building something real โ and real things require solid ground.
Saturn sees all of it. The effort you have put in. The weight you have been carrying. The version of yourself you have been outgrowing. It does not judge any of it. It simply asks: are you ready to set it down?
You are. That is why you are here.
Use whatever tools you already have. Your intention is the magic. (If you'd like a handcrafted altar set or pendant, Moon Shine Spills offers custom orders.)

๐ฟโจ Items You Will Need

- White โ clarity, lunar light, honest completion
(Any candle is fine โ these are simply supportive options.)

๐ THE RITUAL
Arrange Your Altar Set
Place your altar tray at the center of your space. Set your three bowls around it โ one for herbs, one for your earth element, and one for crystals. Place your intention dish or tray nearby, and arrange your pendant where the candlelight will reach it.
Let the arrangement feel deliberate and uncluttered. Capricorn does not need excess. It needs what is true, placed with intention, given room to mean something. An altar that breathes is an altar that works.
Fill the Herb Bowl
Gather your chosen herbs โ cypress, mugwort, comfrey, Solomon's seal, patchouli, or whatever you have on hand. As you add them to the bowl, breathe in their grounding scent and welcome the energy of honest completion. These are not herbs of beginnings. They are herbs of wisdom โ of knowing when something is done, and honoring it as such.
Fill the Earth Element Bowl
Place your chosen earth element into its bowl โ a stone, a handful of soil, a dried root, a pinecone, a piece of wood. Hold it for a moment before you set it down. Feel its weight. Its solidity. Let it remind you of your own โ the part of you that does not shift with every season, that has endured, that knows how to stand.
Fill the Crystal Bowl & Place Larger Crystals
Add your smaller crystals to the bowl. Then arrange any larger stones on and around the altar tray, letting them anchor the space with quiet, stabilizing energy. As you place each one, feel them holding the container steady โ making it safe to release, because the ground beneath you is not going anywhere.
Light Your Incense
Light your chosen incense and let the smoke move slowly through your space. If you are using an essential oil instead, diffuse it now or place a drop on a cotton pad nearby.
As the scent rises, say aloud or silently:
"I open this space to clarity, to honest release, and to the steady, grounding wisdom of the Last Quarter Moon."
Anoint Your Candle & Yourself
Take your chosen oil and anoint the candle, moving from the wick toward the base โ drawing energy inward and downward, back into the earth, releasing what has risen too high or held on too long. Then apply a small amount to your wrists, the soles of your feet, or wherever feels most grounded.
Take a slow breath. Let your feet press into the floor. Let your body remember that it is held.
Hold the candle in your hands (unlit). Visualize yourself standing at the base of a mountain at dusk โ the light low and golden, the air cool and still. The path behind you is long. You have climbed far. And here, at the base of the next ascent, you are being asked to look at your pack โ at everything you have been carrying โ and decide: what comes with me, and what stays here?
Not what you wish you could keep. What actually belongs on the next part of the climb.
Ask yourself:
- What have I been carrying out of obligation, fear, or habit rather than genuine choice?
- What structure, story, or strategy has expired โ and what would it feel like to finally put it down?
- What does the most honest, grounded version of me know that I have been avoiding?
Say:
"With this Last Quarter Moon, I release what no longer belongs on the path ahead. I honor the work it took to carry it this far. And I set it down โ with intention, with dignity, and with trust in what remains."
Light the Candle
Place the candle on your altar and light it.
Sit quietly with the flame and reflect on:
- What has this lunar cycle asked me to look at honestly โ and have I been willing to look?
- Where have I been confusing discipline with punishment, structure with restriction, effort with worth?
- What would it feel like to release one expectation โ of myself, of someone else, of how things were supposed to go โ and simply trust the ground beneath me?
Let the flame be steady. Let it be enough. Capricorn does not need a bonfire. It needs a single, clear, unflinching light.
๐ฟ Charge Your Pendant or Talisman
Hold your pendant in both hands. Let the candlelight catch its color โ the forest green and slate gray and aged gold of the mountain at dusk.
Say or think:
"I infuse this talisman with Capricorn's endurance and Saturn's clear-eyed wisdom. May it remind me that I am capable of the honest, patient work of my own becoming โ and that releasing what has expired is not failure. It is how I build."
Visualize the pendant absorbing:
- Capricorn's steady, mountain-deep endurance and quiet authority
- Saturn's honest, time-tested clarity about what is real and what is ready to go
- The Last Quarter Moon's grounding, releasing, purposefully clearing energy
- The unshakeable knowing that what remains after the clearing is exactly what is meant to grow
Place the pendant beside the candle to finish charging.
โ๏ธ Writing Intentions & Reflection
This Last Quarter Moon in Capricorn is not asking you to have it all figured out. It is asking you to be honest. To look at what you have been carrying โ the old strategy, the expired obligation, the story you built around what you owe the world โ and write it down before you release it. Naming it gives it dignity. Releasing it gives you room.
Write a Release Statement | Write one clear, open sentence beginning with:
"I am releasingโฆ"
Examples:
- I am releasing the belief that rest is something I have to earn.
- I am releasing the version of discipline that punishes instead of builds.
- I am releasing the obligation I took on out of fear, and making space for what I have actually chosen.
Keep it honest. Keep it grounded. Let Saturn's clear-eyed, no-nonsense wisdom move through every word.
Journal Prompts | If you feel called to reflect more deeply, explore:
- What have I been working toward this cycle โ and is it still what I actually want?
- Where have I been mistaking rigidity for strength, or busyness for purpose?
- What would I build if I stopped trying to prove something and simply built what was true?
Write without performance. Capricorn has no patience for it โ and neither, right now, does your soul.
Blending Both | Journal first, then distill your reflection into one honest statement of release. Think of it as laying something down at the base of the mountain โ not abandoning it, not failing it, simply acknowledging that it has brought you as far as it can, and that the next part of the climb requires your hands to be free.
When you are finished, fold the paper away from you, drawing what you are releasing outward and away. Place it on your dish or beneath the candle.
Say:
"I release what is complete with honesty and grace. I make space for what is solid, aligned, and truly mine. I trust Saturn to show me what remains."

๐ Close the Ritual
Allow the candle to burn safely until it goes out on its own, or extinguish it intentionally when you feel complete.
You may keep your intention paper on your altar through the remainder of the waning cycle โ letting the diminishing moonlight carry what you are releasing gently back into the earth, making room for what is coming.
Carry or wear your charged pendant as a reminder that you are always building. That every honest release is a form of construction. That the mountain does not hold every stone forever โ and neither do you.
Take a moment to honor how far you have already come. Saturn sees the whole of it โ every effort, every correction, every quiet moment of choosing to keep going. The Last Quarter Moon holds all of it. And what it holds is more than enough.
