๐ฏ๏ธ New Moon in Gemini Candle Ritual
June 14, 2026 | Moon Shine Spills Ritual Blog
A ritual for naming what you wish to begin, giving voice to your intention, and planting a seed of possibility in the fertile dark of the New Moon.
The New Moon is the inhale of the lunar cycle. The sky has emptied itself of light, and in that darkness something is waiting to begin. The Last Quarter asked you to release; you set something down and walked forward lighter. And now the page is blank, the soil is cleared, and the moon leans close to ask the oldest question there is: what would you like to begin?
Beginning is not always loud. Sometimes it looks like whispering an intention into a quiet room. Sometimes it looks like writing a single sentence and meaning it. Sometimes it looks like staying curious long enough to hear what your own heart has been trying to say.
This week, that beginning moves through Gemini.
Gemini is the sign of the Twins โ the curious mind, the swift messenger, the one who holds two truths at once and finds delight in the space between them. It does not begin through heaviness or grand vow. It begins through curiosity โ the spark of an idea spoken aloud, the question that opens a door, the willingness to stay open rather than to decide too soon. Gemini teaches us that naming a thing is how it begins, and that the first word is its own kind of magic.
Mercury, Gemini's ruling planet, governs communication, intellect, and the quick movement of ideas between minds and worlds. This ritual works with that energy. It invites you to clear your mind a little. To let an intention rise from the dark and find its way into language. To trust the swift, bright current of possibility that has been circling you all along.
You do not need to know where it leads to plant it now. You only need to be willing to begin.
Use whatever tools you already have. Your intention is the magic. (If you'd like a handcrafted altar set or pendant, Moon Shine Spills offers custom orders.)

๐ THE RITUAL
Arrange Your Altar Set
Place your altar tray at the center of your space. Set your three bowls around it โ one for herbs, one for your air element, and one for crystals. Place your intention tray nearby, and arrange your pendant where the candlelight will reach it.
Let the arrangement feel like a desk at first light โ everything quietly ready, a blank page waiting, the air clear and full of possibility. Nothing forced. Nothing decided too soon. Just space that has been made sacred by your willingness to begin.
Light Your Incense
Place your incense in its holder and light it. If you are using an essential oil instead, diffuse it now or place a drop on a cotton pad nearby.
As the smoke rises and curls and drifts outward into the air, say aloud or silently:
"I open this space to clarity, to curiosity, and to the bright current of Gemini wisdom. May the words I am ready to speak find their way into the world."
Fill the Herb Bowl
Gather your chosen herbs โ lavender, peppermint, lemongrass, dill, clover, or whatever you have on hand. As you add them to the bowl, breathe in their scent and invite the bright clarity of beginning. Let the botanicals remind you that every seed holds an entire conversation with the future โ folded small, waiting only for the right moment to speak.
Fill the Element Bowl
Place your chosen air element into its bowl โ a feather, a small bell, a wisp of smoke, clear quartz, or your own intentional breath. Touch it gently, or pass your hand through the air above it. Feel it reflecting Gemini's quick, curious, idea-carrying wisdom. Air does not stay still. It moves, it carries, it connects one thing to another โ and it carries the spoken word outward into the world. This is the quality you are calling in.
Fill the Crystal Bowl & Place Larger Crystals
Add your smaller crystals to the bowl. Then take any larger stones and arrange them on and around the altar tray, letting them hold the space with quiet, grounded presence. As you place each one, imagine it already attuned to the energy of this moon โ the bright, Mercurial clarity that sees the spark of possibility and names it without fear.
Anoint Your Candle & Yourself
Take your chosen oil and anoint the candle, moving from the base upward toward the wick to draw energy in and call your intention toward you. Then apply a small amount to your wrists, your throat, or wherever feels right.
Take a slow breath. Let your mind settle. Let your shoulders drop. Let one clear thought rise to the surface.
Hold the candle in your hands (unlit). Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing at a crossroads at dawn โ many paths opening before you, the light just beginning to return, the air fresh and full of possibility. Feel how you do not need to choose every path. You need only to take the first step, to speak the first word.
Ask yourself:
- What do I want to begin this lunar cycle โ what seed am I ready to plant?
- What idea has been circling, half-formed, waiting for me to give it voice?
- What would it feel like to say my intention out loud and mean it, fully and without hedging?
Say:
"With this New Moon, I name what I wish to begin. I plant it in the fertile dark with curiosity and trust. I give it voice, and I stay open to all the ways it might grow."
Light the Candle
Place the candle on your altar and light it.
Sit quietly with the flame and reflect on:
- What am I beginning tonight โ and what does it feel like to name it out loud?
- Where have I been waiting for certainty before allowing myself to start?
- What becomes possible when I let myself be curious rather than sure?
Allow answers to arrive the way ideas do โ quickly, brightly, often from an unexpected direction. Gemini rewards the open mind, the one willing to follow a thought and see where it leads.
๐ฟ Charge Your Pendant or Talisman
Hold your pendant in both hands. Let the candlelight catch its colors โ the deep indigo violet and orchid magenta, the bright fuchsia and clear sky blue of a mind in motion and a sky full of possibility.
Say or think:
"I infuse this talisman with Gemini's bright wisdom and the fresh, beginning grace of the New Moon. May it remind me that naming a thing is how it begins โ and that I carry the first word with me wherever I go."
Visualize the pendant absorbing:
- Gemini's curiosity, clarity, and gift for giving voice to what matters
- Mercury's quick wisdom and the magic of the spoken word
- The New Moon's fresh, fertile, beginning energy
- The brightness of someone who has named a true intention and stepped curiously toward it
Place the pendant beside the candle to finish charging.
โ๏ธ Writing Intentions & Reflection
This New Moon in Gemini is not asking you to have the whole plan. It is asking you to name one true thing โ and to let the writing be the first act of giving it voice.
Write an Intention Statement | Write one clear, open sentence beginning with:
"I am beginningโฆ"
Examples:
- I am beginning to speak my ideas out loud instead of keeping them safe and silent.
- I am beginning a project I have been circling for a long time, one curious step at a time.
- I am beginning to let myself want more than one thing without needing to choose just yet.
Keep it honest. Keep it open. Let Gemini's bright curiosity move through every word.
Journal Prompts | If you feel called to reflect more deeply, explore:
- What has been waiting, half-formed, for me to finally give it voice?
- Where have I been holding back out of a need for certainty rather than a lack of desire?
- What does it feel like in my body when I imagine saying my intention out loud and meaning it?
Write freely. Gemini energy loves a page that feels like a lively conversation โ quick, curious, following the thread wherever it leads.
Blending Both | Journal first, then distill your reflection into one honest intention statement. Think of it as folding a paper bird and setting it on a current of air โ small, intentional, and trusting the breeze to carry it where it needs to go.
When you are finished, fold the paper toward you, drawing your intention close and calling it into your life. Place it on your tray or beneath the candle.
Say:
"I speak this into being. I trust the bright current. I am open now, and I am ready for what begins."
๐ Close the Ritual
Allow the candle to burn safely until it goes out on its own, or extinguish it intentionally when you feel complete.
You may choose to keep your written intention somewhere you will see it through the coming cycle โ tucked into a journal, placed on your altar, or carried in a pocket. Returning to it as the moon grows honors the Gemini act of staying in conversation with what you have begun.
Carry or wear your charged pendant as a reminder that you have done something quietly brave tonight โ you named a beginning. And in that naming, you set something in motion that the growing light will carry forward.
Take a moment to honor the courage it takes to begin without a guarantee. That is Gemini at its most powerful. That is the New Moon at its most luminous โ shining not in fullness, but in the bright, open promise of the first word.
